The FileOpen Viewer for iPad and iPhone supports both OPN (FileOpen’s native file format) and PDF files. The app operates in essentially the same way as the FileOpen plug-in for Acrobat/Reader, authenticating each open and print command with the publisher’s server. When permission is granted, the FileOpen Viewer displays the document, which can then be used according to the permissions set by the publisher.
The FileOpen Viewer app may be used to grant a user access from more than one device; e.g. an authorized user may use the same credentials to access a document on both their work PC and the iPad they bring home. If the publisher wishes, they can grant Offline Permission to a user for use on airplanes or other environments without an internet connection.
Documents accessed by the FileOpen Viewer app are encrypted with industry-standard 256-bit AES encryption, and cannot be opened by users without explicit permission from the publisher’s server. Authentication may be linked to a session login to the publisher’s server or device registration, which can be emailed to the user.
