FileOpen Systems, a leading document security and rights management developer, today unveiled the FileOpen Viewer for iPad® and iPhone®. This new viewer allows businesses to deliver secured documents to tablets and smartphones running Apple iOS, greatly expanding the reach of their content. Leveraging FileOpen’s core document security technology, FileOpen Viewer for iPad and iPhone not only protects files from unwanted sharing, but enforces granular access controls such as document expiration, offline viewing and watermarking.
"We have listened closely to our customers, who increasingly need to distribute documents securely to their users on mobile devices and tablets,” said Sanford Bingham, President and CEO, FileOpen Systems Inc. "We are delighted to bring to market a document viewer for iPad and iPhone that is every bit as secure and even more seamless to use than our Adobe Reader offering. This is also good news for publishers, who can leverage FileOpen’s app rather than having to create and maintain their own iPad/iPhone app.”
Beyond PDF Security
FileOpen Viewer for iPad and iPhone represents the next generation of the company’s document rights management solutions, which have become a de facto standard for the distribution of valuable and sensitive digital documents. While FileOpen’s flagship products have leveraged the company’s partnership with Adobe Systems to secure PDF documents within the Adobe Reader, the FileOpen Viewer extends that functionality to iPhone or iPad devices running iOS 4 or later.
FileOpen’s longstanding customers have welcomed the announcement. “At the British Library, we have over 18,000 registered document supply customers that increasingly rely on tablet and mobile devices. This is certainly a challenge given our stringent requirements to maintain copyright compliance,” said Barry Smith, Head of Commercial Services at the British Library. “We are very pleased with our current implementation of FileOpen DRM and look forward to becoming an early adopter of their iOS-compatible viewer.”
The FileOpen Viewer is freely available via the App Store. Securing and managing document permissions require a license to FileOpen document security and rights management solutions.
