The FileOpen Viewer for iPad® and iPhone® is freely available from the App Store. It can be downloaded directly to an iOS device or to iTunes on a PC or Mac and transferred to the iOS device. To locate the App in the store, search on “FileOpen,” or enter its direct URL, http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/fileopen-viewer/id520287055?ls=1&mt=8
Encrypting files and managing document permissions requires a license to FileOpen RightsManager, RightsServer or SDK. A fully-functional evaluation version is available on request.
In most cases, users will be able to access FileOpen-protected documents after authenticating via Username/Password or MachineID (RegistrationPDF). Users must also have been granted the appropriate “Machine Limit” permission, which allows access on multiple devices. Additionally, there are limits to the size of PDF files that can be processed by the app, so some large files may need to be regenerated as OPN files. Finally, some PermissionServers built from the FileOpen SDK may need to be modified to enable “Authent switching” or otherwise updated to handle the protocol elements delivered from the iOS device. Please contact us if you are a publisher and would like to discuss your configuration.
An OPN file is a FileOpen native file format that displays in the FileOpen Viewer. OPN is a vector display format with the same fidelity and most of the same behavior as a PDF file, with standard navigational elements. The FileOpen Viewer is a native iOS application andis also available as a “zero-footprint” application that displays protected content in standard browsers, using Adobe Flash.
Devices running iOS 4 or later are supported. All devices must have internet connectivity, at least when opening files for the first time. Thereafter files may open while “Offline” or in “Airplane Mode” but only if the publisher has granted that permission.
Users authenticate through a client/server protocol employed by the FileOpen Viewer App. This methodology is the same as that used by the binary FileOpen Client for PDF or MSOffice, so most of the same authentication and permission mechanisms remain. However, because apps in iOS are not integrated in the same way as programs on desktop computers, some mechanisms like cookie authentication will not work in iOS, so PermissionServers may need to implement the XAuthent mechanism to switch between Authentication types.
All users must authenticate prior to opening files on iOS just as they would on a PC or Mac. Should an authorized user copy or forward the file to another person, the FileOpen Viewer app will deny access to the third party.
Yes, Offline Permission is supported both in the "Classic" and the "Inverted" or "Auxiliary" modes. Files for which Offline Permission has been provided are automatically saved to the device.
At this time, printing is not supported in the iOS version of FileOpen Viewer. You may enable printing by granting a user access on an additional device, a PC or Mac, in which case the FileOpen client software will allow printing according to your specifications.
Most protocol-derived permissions are supported on iOS devices.
